WEEKLY REFLECTIONS

Ms Jan KirkWood - Eight Grade Science Class

Ms Kathy Green - Second Grade Class

September 3 - 6, 2002
I think Ms KirkWood and I will get along just fine.  She was ready to turn her classes over to me on my second day.  I think she is happy to have me, I just hope for the right reasons.  The students are fine, they have been quite receptive to. me.  At this point I don't see any significant problems.  Wish me Luck.
September 9 - 13, 2002
I like the students in my class, they talk a lot, but that is expected.  They do not
like to do school work.  They need some school pride in the worst kind of way.  The kids do not give me as much trouble as they do their other instructors. I sat in on a discipline hearing, I thought it was a waste of time, humping your shoulders, give me a break. The Coach from UCLA came by to
talk to my students.   The kids were happy to see me at the football game, I got the warmest welcome.
September 16 - 20, 2002
The principals and faculty have been very supportive.  Ms Kirkwood seems to
think I am doing just fine.  Since my second day here, I have been getting my
share of field experience.  I am happy to see Friday get here.  when this is all over, I should be ready.  Until next time, have a good day
September 23 - 27, 2002
Another good week, the students and I are getting along fine, my co-op teacher feels comfortable leaving me in charge of her class.  The principals all stop by from time to time, to see how I am doing and if I need anything.  I was offered a position on Monday by the principal Mrs Cynthia Smith.  I hope this is a sign that I am doing good.  I want to continue to be impressive.
September 30 - October 4, 2002
I have really learned a lot from Mrs Kirkwood, she is well organized and prepared for each class.  The students respect her, and they try to please her.
She keeps them busy.  I have experienced,"an idle mind is the devil's workshop".  As time draws near, I am going to miss the students at Robert
Lewis Middle School.  They are a delight and will keep you forever young.

October 7 thru October 11, 2002:
This week we reviewd for nine weeks test.  Some of the students are not serious.  It can become frustrating when they don't pay attention.  They are a group of good kids.  I enjoy being with them.  Ms Kirkwood would love to have another student teacher.

)ctober 14 thru 17, 2002:
This was my final week at Robert Lewis Middle School.  They gave me a big party and all the students and teachers on the Nissan Team attended.  The students gave me a standing ovation.  I received some very nice gifts and tokens.  My students designed the type of classroom they want me to have.  I felt sad , because I really had a good experience.

October 21 thru October 25, 2002:
Today was my first day at Morgantown Elementary School.  I received a warm welcome from the principals and administrators.  I spent the rest of the week observing Ms Green and her assistant Ms Williams.  The first week told me I do not want to teach secong graders.  She treats them like babies, as if they cannot function on their own.  We also worked on my lesson plan.

October 28 thru November1, 2002:
I began teaching math and spelling this week, as well as other duties.  This is really a baby sitting class.  They need to be taught independence.  We also celebrated Halloweeen.  I am counting my days.

November 4 - 8, 2002:
This week was a good week the second grade class is growing on me.  I guess I needed to get familiar with the little ones again.  I still would prefer not to teach them.  My co-op teacher, is real good and very creative, she just will not let them be second graders.  They can do their work, she just need to let them be children.  I think she means well, but in the long run these kids are going to catch it when they move to another grade level.

November 11 - 15, 2002:
The students are really wonderful.  They still tell everthing they know.  They are beginning to grow on me.  The principal came to evaluate me, and she said she was pleased with me.  She wanted to know would I reconsider and come on board in January.  I attended the Barksdale reading program meeting.  I went to PE with the students and played volleyball. They were happy.

November 18 - 20, 2002:
The reading fair was exciting.  I work with two of the children whose family could not or did not help them.  LaKrystal who is a repeat, asked me to be her partner, I did and she worked really hard.  She was so happy, she want stop hugging me.  Justin was excited about his project, I got his reading board for him, he told me his family could not afford it.  He wants me to come to his house for Thanksgiving.  I am ready to complete student teaching.

December 2-6, 2002
This is the final week for student teaching.  The experience was good, but I am ready to finish up.  The only problem I encountered was my first co-op teacher didn't know I was coming.  Working in the school district, told me I definite do not waant grades first thru fourth.
